2017 Youth Rally Message — Witness — 1 Peter 3:8-18

How many of you are “dog people”? Me too. I love dogs. But I have to be honest, sometimes dogs do some pretty nasty stuff. Have you ever watched a dog eat some grass, then walk a bit and vomit a bunch of nastiness up on your yard? Then what do they do? Do they just leave it there? No, they begin to slurp it up. Sluuuuurp. Uggghhhh! Did your stomach do the same thing mine did as I made that noise? Did it start to do some flips and jumps, making you feel like you might just vomit? Remember that feeling and listen to this proverb. Like a dog that returns to his vomit is a fool who repeats his folly.” (Proverbs 26:11, ESV). So a fool returning to his folly is like a dog that slurps up his own vomit–the sinner living in sin is like a dog slurping up vomit. Attractive isn’t it?

Now, on the other side of that coin is what the Psalmist says, “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good!” (Psalm 34:8). So, following and serving the Lord tastes good–it’s glorious and beautiful because HE is glorious and beautiful. Your stomach doesn’t revolt at the idea of consuming it, but longs to consume more. I realize this may be a little sacrilegious, but let’s picture the glory and beauty of Christ as eating and savoring a pizza (I realize it falls short but hang with me). (more…)
