Do Something — Days 6 & 7
// June 24th, 2012 // Events
Well, we missed yesterdays post as a result of our evening activities. So today you will get a double dose of information. Friday was our day away and all of us enjoyed sleeping in a bit longer that morning. Everyone followed the typical morning routine of obstacle course, breakfast, devotions, and meditating on a verse. Once we finished up with that we loaded everyone in the vehicles and drove off to Spec Lake. It ended up being a beautiful day to swim. While we were there we had a police car show up and it was cool to hear the encouraging words than came from the officer. He told us how much he appreciated everything that we did that week and encouraged us to keep up the good work. We headed out in the afternoon, then went to our host houses for showers.
Following the showers was supper, then we bumped our campfire message up. Troy Payment led us in a session about Overcoming Doubt and Keeping the Faith. Everyone was encouraged to stay strong and fight the good fight of faith. As we wrapped up our campfire message we had a little surprise in store for everyone. They were blindfolded and loaded into vans. They had no ideas where we were going but when the blindfolds were removed they found themselves at the Zimmerman bowling alley. We spent the rest of the evening Cosmic Bowling and everyone had a blast.
After the late night at the bowling alley, we had an early morning to wake up. Everyone was to wake up quickly, pack their stuff, grab breakfast, then load into the vehicles. From there we headed off to Kathio State Park for the rest of the day. Once we got to Kathio, we organized everyone and began our 2.5 mile hike into Black Bass Lake. It was a beautiful location for everyone to do devotions, meditation, and small group study. We also spent three hours in solitude as a group. All of the kids found this time to be very impactful and found themselves closer to God as a result of it. We hiked back out and found ourselves invited to an Agape Feast. What a phenomenal job the supper crew did tonight! Not only did they serve us amazing food, but they also nourished us spiritually. They began the meal with devotions and then sang us a song. The kids eyes were glued on everyone that was singing.
Once the meal was over, we broke everyone into five groups and each group began preparation for their mock debates. Each team was to debate one side of an issue, whether they agreed or not. Like last year, everyone had a lot of fun and everything that we’ve learned throughout the week was driven home farther. We have a really bright and passionate group of teenagers! The debates were followed up with our final campfire where we had an extended worship time and shared Highlights, Impacts, and Applications. As I listened to how God had worked in this group, I was pretty overwhelmed. We have a phenomenal group of teenagers that are beginning the process of transforming everyone who comes into contact with their life. And like every year, the evening ended with lots of tears and hugs (even though they will all be seeing each other regularly
God is Good, All the time and we ask you to continue your prayers as everyone leaves the mountain-top experience and head back into “real life”. May they continue to seek God and continue to be conformed to His likeness.
